Bawku(UER), July 03, GNA - Some curious children in the Bawku township on Tuesday rushed to premises of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) to catch a glimpse of the new Ghana Cedi currency being circulated. They mobbed anyone who emerged from the bank to have a feel of the money, which the customers gladly showed to them.
Most of the children told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the new currency was better than the old currency and "wished their parents give them some as pocket money to school."
Most anxious salaried workers thronged the bank and Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), to withdraw their monies when the banks commenced work.
They expressed satisfaction at the speed with which payments were made as against what pertained previously.
However, Mr Kofi Asante-Owusu, a customer of GCB said his cheque to withdraw GH 900 cedis could not be processed due to insufficient cash. An official of the bank explained that no customer was allowed to withdraw more than GH 200 cedis due to insufficient cash at the bank. He said the money they received was an imprest and could have adequate funds when enough old currency notes were returned.
