Tutu-Akuapem, (E/R) May 2, GNA- The Susana Wesley Mission Auxiliary (SUWMA), a women's organization of the Adweso Calvary Methodist church, on Thursday donated items valued over one GH¢1000, to the Trinity Home Foundation, an orphanage at Tutu- Akuapem in the Akuapem North District. The donation by the group forms part of activities marking May Day in the Eastern Region and also as its social responsibility to the needy. The items includes bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, foodstuffs, toilet rolls, beverages and used cloths, The group also organized a party for the children after the donation.
The president of the group, Mrs Dora Micah said one of the main aims of the group, was to take good care of the poor and needy in society. She said the group adopted the home last year through an appeal made by the management of the orphanage and had since then been contribution towards the upkeep of the children. She assured the management of the home that the group would continue supporting the children.
Receiving the items, the founder and Director of the Home, Sophia Nana Yaa Ampeah Asare, thanked the group for the kind gesture and promised that the items would be used for the upkeep of the children. She said the home was started in September 2004 with 16 children, but the number had increased to 46. Mrs Asare said some of the challenges the home faces were feeding and accommodation, because they only depend on donations from individuals, organization and groups to survive. She said the home lacks enough accommodation for the increasing number of inmates, and appealed to government, organizations, both local and foreign, philanthropists and churches to emulate the example of Susana Wesley Mission Auxiliary and come to their aid.
