Co-operate, Tepa Chief tells DCEs and party executives

Tepa (Ash), July 25, GNA - Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, Omanhene of the Tepa Traditional Area in Ashanti, has advised District Chief Executives (DCEs) as political heads not to work in isolation of their party executives.

He noted that it was incumbent on DCEs to show respect to party executives to secure their co-operation to ensure the effective implementation of government policies and programmes.

Nana Atwenewaa Ampem gave the advise when Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister and the Deputy Regional Minister, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, paid a courtesy call on him to introduce the new District Chief Executive for Ahafo-Ano North, Nana Eric Agyeman Prempeh after his confirmation by the District Assembly on Friday.

Nana Atwenewaa Ampem attributed the frequent conflict between DCEs and constituency party executives to lack of co-operation and respect for the executives by the DCEs.

He said the party executives had important role to play in the implementation of government policies and programmes and there was the need for the co-operation between them for party to consolidate the positive change policy of the government.

Nana Atwenewaa Ampem also cautioned the party executives to see themselves as tools of development and partners in progress and not to try to lord it over government appointees to save the image of the government.

He said by the nature of their work, DCEs were supposed to serve the interest of the people and should not be pushed too much against laid down procedures and regulations. The Chief also called for effective cooperation between DCEs and chiefs to ensure development.

He pledged the unflinching support of the people for the government to implement its development agenda. Nana Atwenewaa Ampem said the confirmation of the DCE indicated the level of confidence the members of the assembly had in him and advised him not to give cause for them to lose the confidence of the people in the NPP government.

Mr Boafo advised the DCE to work in humility and to serve the interest of the people. The DCE was until his confirmation the Presiding Member of the assembly. He thanked the President and the assembly for the confidence reposed in him.
