Kumasi, Dec 4, GNA - Chairman of Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, Reverend Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to play their roles effectively to raise the quality of education in the country. He stressed that government, religious bodies, managers of schools, teachers and parents should collaborate to solve problems in the education sector.
Rev. Opuni-Frimpong, made the call at the final of a Quiz and Spelling "B" competition, organized for Presbyterian schools in the Kumasi Metropolis, in Kumasi.
Fifteen primary schools and 13 Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Ashanti Region participated in the competition. Rev. Opuni-Frimpong appealed to school children to learn hard to enable them to pass their examinations to justify investments being made in their education by individuals, organisations, parents and government. He called on the organisers to sustain the programme to encourage teachers and school children to update their knowledge in current affairs and improve on their spelling abilities. "This competition is very relevant, in this period that the standard of education generally seems to be on a downward trend", Rev. Opuni-Frimpong said.
Rev Anokye Nkansah, Ashanti Regional Manager of Presbyterian Schools, said the competition would from next be held on regional basis Asawase Presbyterian took the first position with 52 points in the JHS division and SSNIT Presbyterian Model School at Asuoyeboa took the second position with 50 points.
Rockanje Experimental Presbyterian School at Old-Tafo in Kumasi scored 65 points to become first in the primary school division and Asawase Presbyterian International School was runners-up with 62 points. The wining schools received trophies, certificates, novels, dictionaries and Bibles as their prizes.
