Collapsed Bridge Claims Lives at New Ayoma

Three persons lost their lives within six months in five separate accidents when the vehicles in which they ere travelling plunged into River Dahi at New Ayoma in the Jasikan District due to a dilapidated bridge spanning the river. The assembly member for the area, Mr. Wilson Ampomah, who disclosed this to newsmen, has therefore appealed to the department of feeder roads to reconstruct a new bridge over the river in order to prevent further accidents.

He said vehicular traffic was high on the road due to the busy marketing centres at Kute and New Ayoma, adding that the sharp curve approaching the bridge made the bridge more prone to accidents. Mr. Ampomah said as an election year, more vehicles would ply the route and stressed that there was the need for an urgent intervention to avert any more disasters.

Meanwhile, construction work on the first phase of the Hohoe-New Baika-New Ayoma feeder road had come to a standstill. The situation had generated public outcry and the people are calling on the Volta region tender board to exercise authority to enable work to resume in order to complete the project on time.
