Commercial drivers in the Ashanti Region have warned the government of a massive demonstration if their demands for a fare increase due to soaring fuel prices are not met.

The drivers, who are struggling to make ends meet, say they will be forced to protest if the government refuses to reduce fuel prices and prevents them from increasing transportation fares.

In an interview with Maame Akosua Gyamfuaa on Sunday, July 22, 2024, the drivers expressed their frustration, stating that fuel prices have increased more than three to four times this month alone.

They lamented that they are finding it difficult to cover their car ownership costs and support their families due to the high fuel prices.

Some drivers mentioned that they have not increased fares yet, but will be forced to do so soon, as the rising costs of spare parts are also affecting their business.

They are urging the government, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and other unions to take immediate action to address the situation.
