The Central Regional Minister, Mr Acquainas Quansah, has said efforts were being made to install communication gadgets in some canoes to enable fishermen report activities of pair trawlers to naval authorities at Takoradi and Tema.
The Regional Minister was addressing a durbar of chiefs to mark the Annual Akwambo festival of the chiefs and people of Apam.
He assured fishermen that the government was doing its best to address challenges confronting them.
The Regional Minister in this regard appealed to fishermen to adopt healthy fishing practices.
The Gomoa West District chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, said the Street numbering and naming exercise at Apam had been completed.
He said the exercise was to be extended to Gomoa Dawurampong, Pinanko, Osedzi and Gomoa Nduem.
The First Lady, Madam Lordina Mahama, promised to offer five scholarships to needy but brilliant children from Apam to pursue their education to the university level.
The First Lady, who was represented at the function by the Minister of Tourism, presented 20 bags of rice, assorted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as 5,000.00 Ghana Cedis as her personal contribution towards the celebration of the festival.
The 2012 flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom donated 1,000.00 Ghana Cedis.
