Community embarks on electrification project

Atokor-Buem (V/R), Dec. 27, GNA - An amount of 28 million cedis was realized by citizens of Atonkor-Buem in the Jasikan District at a fund raising durbar during the Christmas festivities in aid of streetlights in the town.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Solomon Kwame Donkor, the District Chief Executive noted that wrangling among the chiefs in the Buem traditional area had contributed to the slow progress of the area. He called for unity and tranquility to prevail in the area and entreated the chiefs to go back to the round-table to re-examine their differences and be prepared to forgive and forget for the sake of the development of the area. Mr. Donkor reiterated government's preparedness to assist communities that initiate their own development projects and stressed the need for communities to take good care and maintain such projects.

Mr. Isaka Buraima, Chairman of Accra-Tema branch of Atonkor-Buem Union observed that the role of pressure groups and Town Development Associations are significant in national development, which calls for support from chiefs and appealed to them to unite the people for the development the area and improve their standard of living. He bemoaned the lack of peace and stability in the area in recent times and appealed to the Ministry of Local Government, chiefs, religious and pressure groups and individuals to, as a matter of urgency help in the resolution of the dispute in the area to pave way for the much needed peace and development.

Nana Adjedu IV, Chief of the town expressed the readiness of the elders to release land for any development project that would benefit not only the community but also the nation as a whole. He commended the Union for the numerous development projects that it initiated in the town and called on all citizens to register as members to contribute their quota towards the advancement of the town.

Mr. Moses Kwadwo Fumador, Assemblyman for Atonkor pleaded with the people to do away with chieftaincy and political rivalry and stay focused to promote the development of the community, adding that as citizens of Atonkor-Buem, they should think of the town first.
