Ho, May 26, GNA-Nine divisional chiefs from Kpedze and its surrounding villages in the Ho Municipality on Thursday presented a petition to the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Dzamesi for the construction of the vital 35 kilometre road from Bame through Holuta. Togbe Atsridom V, Fiaga of Kpedze who spoke on behalf of the other chiefs, said the road, which used to be a major road enhancing business between Togo and Ghana and also promoted tourism activities, was now a death trap.
He said because of the current state of the road, socio-economic activities were declining and applications for entry into secondary schools in the area had reduced drastically. Togbe Atsridom said appeals for help had been received with promises since 1998 but expressed the hope that this time round, something would be done about it.
Togbe Ayisa, chief of Honuta also raised concerns about the breakdown of Volta Star FM and the areas inability to get GTV transmission had virtually cut-off the area from the rest of the country.
They also congratulated the Minister for his elevation to the position of a regional minister. The Minister expressed appreciation for the initiative of the nine chiefs coming together for a common purpose and assured them that the region would have its fair share of development, which would extend to those areas.
On the issue of Volta Star, he said the government was doing everything possible to restore it but called on entrepreneurs in the region to venture into private radio station industry.
