Sefwi-Elluokrom (W/R), Jan. 9, GNA - Members of Sefwi Elluokrom community in the Juabiso-Bia District have, through collective initiatives mobilized 28 million cedis to undertake an electrification project in the area.
This followed an emergency community gathering which agreed that they could no longer wait on government for them to get electricity therefore, every elderly was asked to contribute 500,000 cedis, 300,000 cedis, an adult, 100,000 cedis a male youth and 50,000 cedis for women.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday, Mr. Yaw Owusu Perko, Assemblyman for the area said the decision became crucial because the area has been neglected for far too long, in that the electrification programme in the past did not cover them and there were no signs they would be considered soon.
He said out of the amount realized, the community had purchased 60 low and 2 high-tension poles.
Mr. Perko, therefore, appealed to the District Assembly, the Electricity Company and government to recognize their effort and come to their aid to enable the project to commence for the people to witness the product of their initiatives.
He said 100 million cedis have been targeted and added, "all those in the community, especially members resident outside the district, region and even abroad should appreciate the need of the community by contributing their quota as early as possible."
Mr. Perko also appealed to companies and individuals who pledged to honour their promises for early start of the project.
