Asamang-Tamfoe (E/R), March 27, GNA- The chiefs of Asaman Tamfoe in the Eastern Region on Sunday took a major leap towards integrating their people into the Information Communication Technology (ICT) world when construction works began on a 1.5 billion computer centre meant to help the youth to be computer literates.
The proposed ICT centre was aimed at equipping the present generation of Asaman Tamfoe with the state-of-the-art training in problem solving techniques to diversify the local economy from crude farming methods to a new value-added agro scientific methods for development.
The Member of Parliament for Atiwa and Deputy Minister for Human Resources, Youth and Employment, Dr Charles Brempong-Yeboah, who cut the sod to mark the beginning of the project, also gave 200-million as a start-up capital for the facility, which would also have a social centre and guest apartments.
Residents of the town in the Diaspora are also contributing to the project expected to be completed in two years.
Addressing them, Dr Brempong-Yeboah called for a rekindling of the communal spirit of the people to serve as a galvanizing force in a bid to cut down the cost of the project and also harness both the latent and manifest spirit of communities for accelerated rural development. He said without sound initiatives, resourcefulness and drive from local communities, it would be difficult to integrate local economies into the highly competitive global market place and therefore commended the people of Asaman Tamfoe for putting into fruition proposals that had been on the drawing board for over a decade.
Dr Brempong-Yeboah enlisted the support of all the people of Asaman-Tamfoe towards the project to make it successfull. The Chief of the town, Nana Kwame Koh, urged his people to nip in the bud, destructive behaviours which have tended to stifle the progress of the town in the past. 27 March 07
