During the early part of the year 2017, the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Paul Asare Ansah assured that the new Takoradi road would receive his attention as soon as possible.

According to him, looking at where the direction of the development of the port is, this road is going to be the main access road to and from the port, therefore, GPHA was going to develop it into a first class road.

In efforts to walk the talk, work has indeed begun on the New Takoradi road as drainage constructions are being carried out there.

Kwame Agyei, the resident engineer whose firm, Arc Consult has been contracted for the road development said the road which begins from Paa Grant roundabout through New Takoradi to the Takoradi Port is ultimately linked to the Takoradi Container Terminal (Tacotel), where the new container terminal is situated, hence, needs to be fixed quickly to bring relieve to the port and motorists in general.

He assured that firm materials are being used for the road construction to meet the purposes of port activity by withstanding heavy trucks.

"With the third section, which is from New Takoradi to TACOTEL is a dedicated road to serve the container terminal for the Port operations and it will also be opened for the public use especially the community alongside the road. They will also use that same road to access the facilities such as the regional hospital," he explained.

The stretch of the road is 4.8 kilometres. Eye on Port has its lens on developments on the construction of the New Takoradi Road and update viewers.
