Contractor denies allegations

Nkoranza, April 03, GNA - Mr Kwaku Adu-Poku, the Managing Director of Nkoranza Lumber Company, has refuted allegations by the youth of Nkwabeng that he had shirked his social responsibilities to the community.

The youth complained that the timber contractor has been felling trees in the area but had refused to support the development of the area.

Mr Isaac Asirifi-Kudom, a former Assembly Member for the area, told Ghana News Agency that before Mr Adu-Poku started work in the area the community had asked him to provide them with a borehole but he had not responded.

He said the only occasion that the timber merchant supported the community was at a fund-raising rally two year ago in aid of development programmes when he donated one million cedis.

Mr Kwaku Adu-Poku told Ghana News Agency in response that the request of the people for a borehole was beyond the means of the company.

"The company offered five million cedis as well as roofing boards in the construction of the Presbyterian Mission House at Nkwabeng upon the request of the people", the contractor said.

Mr Adu-Poku said his company also assisted in filling potholes on the Mmofra-Mfa-Adwen to Bredi Number Two road to facilitate the movements of the people and their farm produce to Nkwabeng and beyond.
