Techiman (B/A) Feb 15, GNA - Master Hatchism Gyan, 21, a final-year student of Techiman Secondary School, has been bonded for 12 months to be of good behaviour by a magistrate court at Tuobodom, near Techiman for causing damage to school property.
Master Gyan pleaded guilty on three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, attempting to steal and causing damage to the window of the school bursar's bungalow costing 400,000 cedis and will go to prison for one year in default.
Two other students of the school, who pleaded not guilty for their involvement in the crime were acquitted and discharged as investigations proved that they were not involved in the crime.
They were Eric Owusu Yeboah, 17 and Sylvester Achisiba 17, all form two students.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Comfort Nyamesah told the court, presided over by Mr. Krofah Addai, that at about 2030 hours on January 23 this year, the school's night security men head an unusual noise at the bursar's bungalow.
The security men rushed to investigate the cause of the noise and Master Gyan on seeing them took to his heels but was apprehended after a chase.
Master Gyan was taken to the bursar's house where it was detected that the window had been forcibly damaged with the netting, louvre-blades and mesh destroyed.
The prosecutor said when the school authorities were informed and they questioned the student he admitted the offence and mentioned Yeboah and Achissiba as accomplices.
She said the two accomplices however, denied their involvement, saying they were with their colleagues in a classroom at about 1900 hours that day when they heard of the arrest of Gyan.
Asked by the presiding judge why he decided to break through the window Master Gyan stated that he had once been implicated in the missing of a school amplifier and wanted to remove his personal file being kept by the bursar.
In passing judgement, Mr. Krofah Addai noted that police investigations had proved that the two alleged accomplices were not at the scene as alleged by Gyan and could therefore not be part of the crime.
Mr. Addai consequently convicted the student to be of good behaviour for 12 months or in default one year having considered the future of Gyan and dealt with him leniently to enable him to complete his education.
He warned students against immoral practices and asked Gyan's parents to pay the cost of damage to the window.
