Court fines tanker driver five million cedis.

Tema, June 17, GNA - A tanker driver who crashed into a Benz saloon car at the GTP roundabout has been fined five million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court 'A'.

Sulemana Wala pleaded guilty to charges of driving without due care and attention. He will go to jail for nine months in default.

In the dock with him was Kwasi Gboryeh Caesar, driver of Benz saloon car who pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on July 7, 2004. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Christopher Quaicoo told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on January 16, 2004, Caesar who was in-charge of a Benz saloon car with registration number GW 6138 U was driving from Chemu Secondary School towards industrial area. On reaching a section of the road near GTP roundabout, instead of stopping to observe traffic, he entered and crossed a vehicle with registration number GR 6957 C that was driven by Mr Reginald Tawiah Odartey.

Chief Inspector Quaicoo said Sulemana who was in-charge of DAF Petrol tanker with registration number GR 2530 U who was driving behind the two vehicles also failed to observe traffic and ran into the vehicle driven by Tawiah.

He said Tawiah sustained injuries and was rushed to the Tema General Hospital for treatment.

After investigation, they were charged with the offences.
