Court remands farmer for defiling girl, nine

Nsuta (Ash), June 23, GNA - A 44-year-old farmer was on Wednesday remanded by a circuit court at Nsuta for defiling a nine-year-old primary school girl.

The plea of Yaw Brefo was not taken and he will re-appear on June 29.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector M.E. Donkor told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that on May 31, 2004, the victim who had closed from school was passing behind the accused person's house.

He said Brefo who was standing outside his house, spotted the victim and beckoned her to come, to which she obliged.

Chief Inspector Donkor said Brefo then gave the victim 1,000 cedis to buy him a loaf of bread but that on her return, the accused had entered his room and therefore asked her to bring the bread to him in the room.

He said on entering the room Brefo forcibly held her, put her on his bed and gagged her with pieces of rags to prevent her from screaming.

Chief Inspector Donkor said the accused then defiled her after which he threatened to beat her if she disclosed her ordeal to anyone. He said five days later, the victim's mother detected a change in her daughter's gait and so confronted her and this forced her to disclose the ordeal she went through to her mother.

Chief Inspector Donkor said a report was made to the police and she was issued with a medical form for examination at the Asante-Mampong Government Hospital.

He said the medical report indicated that the victim's hymen had been broken thereby confirming that she had been defiled and based on that Brefo was arrested. Meanwhile, the victim has been admitted at the Mampong Hospital.
