Wenchi (B/A), Jan. 30, GNA - Customers owed Wenchi Water and Sanitation Development Board GH¢133,000 as at the end of December 2008. Mr Robert Kpienbaareh, Administrator of the Board, who told the Ghana News Agency at in Wenchi, has therefore, appealed to defaulters to settle their bills to enable the board to continue supplying them with water. He explained that the board had adopted measures to expand the water system to some parts of the municipality due to increasing demand. Mr Kpienbaareh said of the amount, public institutions owed GH¢80,000 cedis. He said currently the board did not face any problem in meeting the demand of customers, but noted that "if the measures are not put in place, the board would find it difficult to meet the demands of the growing population".
Mr Kpienbaareh said the expansion would cover areas such as Akrobi New-Town, Wenchi Farms Institute and the British Tobacco Company (BTC). The Administrator called on the public to desist from illegal connection stressing that the board had embarked on a mass disconnection exercise in the municipality. "Those who would be caught in connection with illegality would be made to face the full rigours of the law," Mr Kpienbaareh warned. He appealed to non-governmental organisations, Churches and philanthropists to assist in the provision of logistics and the necessary materials to enhance their work.
