Mr Akwasi Adu Poku, the Ahafo Ano North District Chief Executive has attributed the annual loses of farm produce to lack of storage facilities.
He said large qualities of tomatoes, okro and garden eggs were left to rot on the farms after harvesting due to lack of markets, storage and processing facilities.
Mr Adu Poku was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on this year's favourable food production in the district at Tepa.
The DCE said in some instances, some farmers even refused to harvest their crops and left the fruits to rot on the trees.
He said to remedy this situation efforts were being made by the district assembly to find avenues for processing, storing and marketing perishable farm produce.
Mr Adu Poku said the assembly in collaboration with the Village Infrastructure Project was supporting the development of on-farm and village level drying facilities, storage cribs for maize as well as community storage facilities.
He said the Tepa and Anyinasuso markets had been completed and will serve as marketing centres for perishable commodities such as tomatoes, garden eggs, okro and pepper.
