DCE cautions people stealing educational items

Odumase-Krobo (ER), Feb. 10, GNA- Mr David Sackitey Asare, the Manya Krobo District Executive (DCE), on Wednesday warned that drastic measures would be taken against anyone caught stealing educational items donated to schools in the area.

He noted that such negative tendencies undermined government's efforts at improving education, and said investigations would soon commence into reports that items meant for schools in the area were being stolen.

Mr Asare gave the warning when he was presenting assorted items worth over 30 million cedis t o the Krobo Girls' Secondary School (KROGISS) at Odumase Krobo.

The items that were purchased with the Assembly's share of the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Relief Fund included a television set, 150 science laboratory stools and over 2,000 exercise books. Mr Asare said the Assembly would not tolerate people who, instead of supporting development programmes, were rather undermining efforts by individuals, organisations and government to improve the lives of people.

The headmistress of KROGISS, Mrs Gladys Appiah, commended the DCE for contributing to the development of education in the district. She, however, noted that in spite of the assistance being received, the school was still facing many problems.

Miss Appiah mentioned the encroachment of its land, due to the non-payment of compensation to the landowners and the usage of portion as through road, which had encouraged the stealing of school property as some of the problems.

"Some girls also take advantage of the non-walling of the facility and sneak to town for diverse reasons", adding that the situation undermined the moral training being imbued in the students.
