DCE sues an accuser for 50 million cedis

The East Akim District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Victor Asihene has filed a suit for libel and defamation claiming 50 million cedis general damages from Boakye Yiadom Kotopre, a staff of the Ghana Telecom at New Tafo.

The suit is scheduled for hearing on April 3.

In his statement of claim, Mr Asihene prayed the court for an interim injunction to restrain the defendant and his agents from further publishing libellous statements against him.

He said the defendant, in a letter dated March 17 addressed to the Presiding Member of the East Akim District Assembly falsely accused him of not calling District Assembly meetings and single-handedly awarded contracts to his relatives without approval of the Assembly and laid down regulations.

Mr Asihene said the defendant falsely accused him of causing a manhole to be dug at New Tafo to be used as a septic tank at a public place that could create public nuisance to nearby schools.

The statement said the defendant accused Mr Asihene of "assuming so much airs, being authoritative and arrogant with poor working ethics that is causing a lot of dissatisfaction for the government in the district."
