DCEs must show managerial skills--says NDC MP.

Somanya (E/R), Jan. 24, GNA- The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya, Mr Michael Nyaunu, has called for a re-alignment in the appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs) to ensure that those appointed possessed skills in management and development.

According to him, the office of District Chief Executive should not be "a learning ground" for the occupiers, adding, "the situation where people without skills in management and development are appointed to that post is retarding the progress of some Assemblies."

Addressing a public forum at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region, Mr Nyaunu asked the people to request for DCEs who can perform, "not those who come to learn."

He said it was becoming increasingly clear that DCEs should, in addition to understanding the nuances of politics, were also able to demonstrate abilities in areas as management, social development and governance to be able to steer the affairs of the districts towards the path of growth.

In this regard, the portfolio of District Chief Executive, he suggested, must not become another experimentation field for appointees since that would unduly "severe the link between national effort at progress and the integration of grassroots economies into the national whole."

Mr Nyaunu also called for the strengthening of the capacity of assembly members of the various District Assemblies to enable them to deliver on their duties.
