DFP expresses condolences to families of Anloga disturbances

Ho, Nov. 3, GNA - The Volta Region Youth wing of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) have expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in last Thursday's disturbances at Anloga.

They also extend their sympathies to the people who were injured. This was contained in a Press statement signed by Mr. Wisdom Dafeamekpo and Mr. Randy Mortey, Regional Youth Organiser and Deputy Regional Youth Organiser respectively and issued at Ho on Friday. The statement found it strange that when the writing was on the wall for all to see and people were beating the war drums prior to the carnage, no preventive measures were taken by the authorities to forestall the incidence.

The statement called on government to institute immediate investigations into the incident to bring the perpetrators of "this heinous crime to book".

It said in order not to turn the Anlo area into another Dagbon affair, government must provide adequate security to enable innocent citizens of the area to go about their duties without fear adding, "it is the prerogative of the government to protect the lives and properties of the people".

The statement called for calm on the part of all parties to the Anlo chieftaincy dispute in the interest of the Anlo state. Two men and a woman and a policeman lost their lives at Anloga on Thursday when riot Police tried to quell disturbances during the performance of final rites to pave the way for the installation of Mr. Francis Nyonyo Agboada, alias Regent Torgbui Sri III as the Awoamefia of the Anlo State.

A number of people, including some Policemen were also wounded while a Police Constable who was kidnapped was found dead in a lagoon at Anloga.
