Ho, April 16, GNA- A four-member team from the Department of Urban Roads (DUR) of the Ministry of Roads and Highways has arrived in Ho to assess infrastructure of the proposed Ho Municipality.
Mr De-Graft Afful, Assistant Deputy Director in-charge of Maintenance of DUR and leader of the team told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that it would be looking at access roads, drainage, traffic flow and accommodation for the Department and its staff.
He said the information gathered would be analysed to determine whether the DUR would have to set-up an office as part of the new municipality. Mr Afful said the team would also look at the volume of economic activities, which flow from the periphery to Ho.
He said the exercise is crucial to the final approval for the grant of municipal status, later this year.
Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho District Chief Executive assured the team that provision has been made for accommodation for the Department. He said the new municipality would include Ho Central and Ho West Constituencies.
Areas to be visited are, Tsikpota, Glalah Street, Ho-Ahoe and adjoining areas, Leprosarium, Old Zongo, Police Depot, Medical Village and Ho-Polytechnic.
The rest are, Ashanti-Kpoeta, Kpedze, Akrofu, Bame, Anfoeta and Dzolokpuita.
Driver's mate remanded for incest
Accra April 16, GNA - A 19-year-old driver's mate who allegedly defiled his eight-year old niece was on Friday remanded into prison custody by An Accra Circuit Court.
Akuetey Odartey Lamptey, charged with incest, pleaded not guilty. He is to re-appear on May 10.
The case of prosecuting Chief Inspector Emmanuel Boison are that Lamptey stayed in the same house with the victim.
Prosecution said on April 10, this year, at about 1200, accused asked the victim to accompany him to stadium area to buy an item. According to the prosecutor, instead, Lamptey, took the victim to a bush near the Independence Square and had sex with her. Prosecution said when the victim was interrogated, she said the accused person covered her mouth with a handkerchief and asked the victim to go home after satisfy his desire.
The victim, who could not keep the ordeal to herself, informed her grandmother who also reported the matter to the police. A medical form was issued to enable the victim to be examined at the hospital. Prosecution said accused has admitted the offence in his caution statement.
