Ada Foah (GA/R), March 12, GNA - The Dangme East District Assembly in 2003 collected a total amount of 1.7 billion cedis as it's internally generated revenue as against a target of 1.3 billion cedis.
The revenue came from Sege, Kasseh, Ada Foah, Big Ada and Anyamam town/area councils, Mr Kofi Plahar, Dangme East District Chief Executive announced at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly on Thursday at Ada Foah.
Mr Plahar commended those who worked hard to bring about the improvement and urged them to continue to educate the electorate to honour their tax obligations.
With regards to the district assembly common fund, the assembly received a sum total of 4,396,729,033 billion cedis as against an estimated budget of 4.365,000 billion cedis.
Mr Plahar said the assembly granted scholarships totalling 141.4 million cedis to students in basic, secondary, training college and tertiary institutions to pursue various courses.
He said a number of projects in the health and education sectors in the district had been completed while others were still ongoing. On health, the Chief Executive stated that 28 people including a nine-month child and a 75-year-old woman, out of 40 patients tested positive for HIV/AIDS.
This, he said, is frightening and called on the assembly members to join in the campaign against the disease.
He also entreated the members to embrace the health insurance scheme and educate the electorate about its importance for quality health care.
With the impending presidential and parliamentary elections, Mr Plahar impressed on them to ensure that the electorate conduct themselves in a peaceful manner so as to bring the electioneering process to a success.
