Kumasi, April 27, GNA - A two-week training workshop to help upgrade the competence of day-care centre supervisors has opened at the Edwinase Rehabilitation Centre in Kumasi.
It is being organized by the Department of Social Welfare and attended by 60 participants, drawn from all districts in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Jacob Achulo, Regional Director of the Department, said the goal was to aid them to perform better in their role of nurturing kids in their formative years.
He said this way; the nation would be assured of solid foundation that would lead to a strong academic performance and acceptable moral conduct of its future leaders.
He said the Department would not abdicate its responsibility of ensuring that all the centres functioned effectively and under healthy environment.
Mr Achulo urged proprietors to see to it that they registered with the department before they start operating. He also underlined the need for them to charge moderate and affordable fee= s.
Mrs Ellen Takyi Mensah, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of Early Childhood Development Centres of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said they were working in concert with the Department to create conditions for proper growth and development of children.
She appealed to the participants to take the workshop seriously and to apply their newly acquired skills to transform the centres. Madam Clara Koning, one of the participants, urged closer collaboration among all stakeholders for the well-being of children.
