Gomoa Potsin, April 27, GNA- Mr. Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister has warned students to desist from practicing occultism and the use of drugs because they could not help them in any way of their education.
Rather their use could ruin their lives and destroy their humanity. Mr Edumadze gave the warning at the closing of the First Central Regional Cadet Corps Training Camp at Gomoa Potsin T I Almadiyya Secondary School.
The four-day camp brought together 192 cadets and 30 Officers from twelve second circle institutions in the Central and five from the Greater Accra Region.
He condemned the alleged recent competition among some students in smoking of India Hemp instead of concentrating on their studies in support of the huge investment being made by their parents. Mr. Edumadze stated that it required sacrifices, hard work and discipline for students to achieve academic excellence and therefore urged them to avoid any negative tendencies that could not contribute towards their success.
He cautioned the Cadet corps not to use the camps to indulge in immoral practices that could expose them to dangers of HIV/AIDS and urged them to make right choice to abstain from pre-marital sex.
He pointed out that some students have to cut short their education because they failed to exhibit a high level of self-control and thus got infected with the AIDS virus or impregnated.
The Regional Minister assured them of government's efforts to help provide the needed conducive environment for the development of the nation's human resource, adding that vigorous human resource development is the first of the three priorities under "Positive Change Chapter two".
Mr, Mohammed Ackonu, Headmaster Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary School appealed to the government to equip schools with facilities for the training of its cadet corps.
He said the cadet training in secondary schools helps to keep the students indoors and also avoid roaming on the streets during holidays and school hours.
