Accra, March 1, GNA - The Disabled Christians Evangelistic Association of Ghana has called on government to adopt pragmatic measures to uphold the rights and give equal opportunities to persons with disabilities to develop their potentials. A statement signed by Emmanuel Prince Adu, Chairman of the Association further asked government to expedite action on the disability Bill to reverse the negative image the public has for persons with disabilities.
The Association said when good policies were adopted persons with disability could make tremendous contributions towards sustainable development and improved standards of living. It said most of the persons with disability begged on the street because of unequal employment opportunity, which is skewed in favour of able-bodied people. "If the government itself in the country has yet given due recognition to the role persons with disabilities play in the society, the disability Bill would have been given much needed attention to make the disabled compete with their able counterpart," the statement said.
