A bloody melee erupted between members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Gomoa West Constituency during the inauguration of the DRIP equipment and branding of the equipment by the NPP parliamentary candidate.

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West Richard Gyan-Mensah reportedly led a team of supporters to storm the event to demand the removal of the posters of the NPP PC from the machines.

The feuding parties could be seen wielding machetes, knives and other lethal weapons and confronting one another brutally in the presence of the police leading to one person being injured.

Speaking to this reporter, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West, Bismark Baisie Nkum, narrated that Richard Gyan-Mensah arrived with a thug to attack them, resulting in one person being injured.

““The MP led a thug and came with…. We’ll want to see a prosecution by the police. We want to see the matter going to court tomorrow and we’re going to make a report against the sitting member of parliament (Richard Gyan-Mensah) that they have the gut to write a letter to the police commander that they should not allow us to put our posters on the car and commander you have allowed them to come and destroy the programme like that?”

He continued “A whole political party had the gut to write a letter to the police that don’t allow…Didn’t Mahama brand his buses? Didn’t he pay GH¢14,000? The E-Blocks, didn’t Mahama put his and the MP’s picture on the E-Blocks? What is wrong with that? You people are saying the government is not doing well so what is so special about this that all of a sudden, we should clap for the government and you want to associate with the good things of the government? What nonsense is that?” he quizzed.

According to the reporter, the police have been able to restore calm.
