Nkoranza, B/A Dec. 18, GNA - A-three-day capacity workshop organized by the Nkoranza district directorate of education for about 300 early childhood teachers serving in the various kindergarten schools in the district is underway at Nkoranza.
The exercise is aimed at introducing the teachers to the new curricula designed for teaching and handling of children at the kindergarten level.
Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, district director of education who opened the workshop described pre-schools as the important ingredient and the basis for formal education, adding that the children at such levels needed to be properly handled so that they would start their education on a firm foundation stand.
He urged the participants to take the training very serious to enable them to be equipped with the necessary teaching methodologies to enhance their work in the classrooms.
Mr. Agyemang-Badu commended government for offering support for the pre-schools education programme, which was of late put on the shoulders of the communities and said government's support would accelerate the growth and development of the schools.
He stressed the need for kindergarten teachers to attach seriousness to their work at that level as "a good beginning makes a good ending" and that they should not regard the area as not of any hard working place.
Miss Elizabeth Danso, District Pre-school organizer pleaded with the participants to be punctual to classes and take the lessons at the workshop serious in order that they would perform effectively in the schools to promote the development of the schools in the various communities.
The participants would be taken through "how children learn, the importance of physical education in schools, the teaching of English language, mathematics and environmental studies". The district basic schools education Coordinator, Mr. Adjei Yeboah commended the education directorate for arranging the workshop to update the knowledge and skills of the teachers towards effective classroom work.
Mr. Osei Kuffour, Nkoranza district basic schools heads association chairman called on his colleague head teachers to ensure proper supervision of the activities that go on in the kindergarten schools in order that they would prepare better children to start their education. 18 Dec. 06
