District Health Directorate honours volunteers

Nkawie (Ash.), Feb. 2, GNA - The Atwima District Health Directorate has honoured Community Based Surveillance (CBS) groups in the district for their commitment, dedication and hard work in the fight against polio, cerebral spinal meningitis, guinea worm, measles and neo-natal tetanus in the district.

They were given Wellington boots and certificates for their hard work to serve as incentive to others to emulate.

Speaking at the annual get-together at Nkawie for the CBS on Monday, Mrs Beatrice Appah, District Director of Health Services announced that the directorate would carry out active case search for Buruli Ulcer this year.

She said a target to achieve 100 per cent coverage in the mass immunisation exercise in Roll Back Malaria and home-based care has been set. Mrs Appah therefore, called on the CBS to report any unusual health problems in their communities to the nearest facility or their zonal co-ordinators for solution.

Mr Umar Razak, the District Disease Control Officer advised the CBS not to regard themselves as qualified health personnel who can treat all manner of cases, and therefore asked them to refer every serious case to the nearest hospital for prompt attention.
