Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), May 17, GNA - Dormaa District Assembly in Brong-Ahafo has spent 1.312 million cedis to register 21 physically challenged persons at Asikasu in the district for the health insurance scheme.
The gesture is in partial fulfilment of guidelines for the utilization of the 2005 District Assemblies Common Fund that directs all Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to set aside up to five percent of their shares to support initiatives by the physically challenged.
Mr Ben Atsutse, the District Budget Analyst, said this in an interview with the GNA.
He said the assembly's decision to foot the health insurance premiums of 80,000 cedis per person followed a formal appeal by members of Asikasu zone branch of the physically challenged association to the assembly to assist them to register. Mr Atsutse said the assembly earmarked 155.640 million cedis towards the welfare of the physically challenged persons out of its expected share of 5.4 billion cedis of the Common Fund for 2005. The assembly has also rented a storeroom for the 80-member Companion for the Physically-Challenged Association at Dormaa-Ahenkro at the cost of 8.640 million cedis.
It has stocked it with 12 million cedis worth of materials for batik, tie and dye production that has been a major source of income for the group. 17 May 06
