Dormaa Traditional Council assists schools

The Dormaa Traditional Council has donated 400 bags of cement and three computers and accessories to some schools in the traditional area at the total cost of 37.7 million cedis at a ceremony at Dormaa Ahenkro.

The beneficiary institutions: the Mansen Senior Secondary School (SSS) at Wamfie, Chiraa SSS and the Bomaa SSS received 100 bags of cement and a computer and accessories each.

Osagyefo Oseadeeye Agyeman Badu II, Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area who made the donation, said the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of providing the needs of schools.

He, therefore, said the gesture was to supplement the efforts of the government towards educational development in the district, adding that part of royalty from Dormaa stool lands was used in purchasing the items.

Nana Badu said he was happy about the results of the last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Brong Ahafo region of which the Dormaa District placed third, but added that there was need for improvement in educational standards.

The Omanhene said the traditional council was reactivating a 300-million cedi Brick and Tile Factory and building a Police Station at Dormaa Ahenkro at the cost of 50 million cedis.

He also hinted that the council was constructing water closet toilets; with two of the facilities at Dormaa Ahenkro and one at Wamfie and instituting the Dormaa Dormaaman Educational Endowment Fund for needy but brilliant students.

Mr Sammy Adu-Saforo, Head master of the Chiraa SSS on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the traditional council for the gesture.

He pledged that the schools would make judicious use of the items to enhance teaching and learning.
