Drivers urged to maintain vehicles regularly

Accra, Sept.5, GNA - Drivers of Government vehicles were on Monday urged to ensure the regular maintenance of the vehicles to help curb the spate of road accidents.

Mr Kweku Owusu Baah, Chief Director, Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) who made the call said, "which ever comes first, whether the 5,000 kilometres or month ending maintenance, the procedure should be adhered to".

"Some of you have the notion that in spite of the mileage you make, you still have to wait until the month ending before you make request for the servicing of your vehicles. This is wrong and we need to stop it," he said.

Mr Baah was addressing 85 drivers of MOFA drawn from the Greater Accra, Volta, Central, Western and Eastern Regions at a five-day training workshop in Accra.

They would be taken through defensive driving techniques, courtesy and protocol driving, effective operation of vehicles control mechanism and road traffic regulations.

He warned the drivers against drunkenness, stealing and pilfering of vehicle spare parts adding: "If you are caught, you would be dismissed outright."
