Dzamesi promises open-door policy

Ho, Feb. 14, GNA - Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, on Monday stated that he would pursue an open door policy with a continual interaction with all identifiable groups.

He said this policy would strengthen the bonds of cooperation between government and the public and thereby build and sustain a cohesive region.

Mr Dzamesi said this when he paid a courtesy call on Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in Ho to formally introduce himself after his recent appointment.

He commended Togbe Afede on his numerous expositions on the development strategies that the Region could adopt and promised to support him since their visions for the Region coincided in several areas.

Mr Dzamesi announced that the Urban Roads Department had started preparatory works to transform Ho Township roads to befit its status as a municipality.

He promised to facilitate the recruitment of a counsel for the Regional House of Chiefs to enable its adjudicating committee to resume hearing the numerous chieftaincy cases in the Region. Mr Dzamesi said this would curb the tendency among aggrieved factions in chieftaincy issues to go to the traditional courts where the cases remained pending for years.

Togbe Afede said his views on development reflected the needs of the entire Region and not his area alone and solicited support from the Minster to make his ideas come into fruition.

"All we desire is that you support us in our efforts to contribute our widow's mite towards the unity, development and progress of Ghana," he stated.

In Togbe Afede's view, the progress of the Region and that of the entire nation was inextricably linked and called for consensus in tackling the "myriad of problems confronting the Region as a contribution towards the development and progress of Ghana".

He urged Mr Dzamesi to work to eradicate the sectional and ethnic suspicions in the Region, referring to those who fan such feelings as "hate-mongers".

Togbe Afede counselled all people from the Volta Region to "put our region and our national identity above everything and work together". He appealed to the Minister to tackle the Ho-Kpedze, Ho-Sogakope, Ho-Kpando road projects, provide potable water for Takla community and also called for steps to halt the falling standard of education in the Region.
