EC asks for more time to pay arrears

The Electoral Commission has asked the over 130,000 electoral officers who helped in the 2012 election to exercise restraint for the payment of their allowances.

The Electoral officers are threatening fire and brimstone if their allowances are not paid.

According to them, all efforts to get their money paid have proved futile.

The EC would have to cough out the outstanding arrears to settle these officers who were recruited temporarily to man the over 26,000 polling stations nationwide.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM on Monday, Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Madam Sylvia Annor confirmed that the money have not been paid and pleaded that they be given more time since they were faced with a hurdle.

“We have solved that hurdle and very soon we will pay them. It is not our wish that the money will keep long”.

She however refused to mention the exact time the money will be paid. She said ‘it will be as soon as possible’.
