EC calls on public to probe backgrounds of personnel

The Ashanti Region office of the Electoral Commission (EC), has opened its doors for institutions, political parties and civil society organisations to probe the backgrounds of personnel the commission has recruited to conduct next week’s Limited Registration Exercise.

The commission says it is doing this in accordance to the new provisions under the Constitutional instrument CI 91 which came to force in February this year, 2016.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, Siribuour Quaikoo made the disclosure while training Journalists in Kumasi.

Mr Quaikoo indicated that the process is to ensure that the neutrality of its personnel conducting the limited registration exercise is not in doubt.

Meanwhile, he indicates that the EC is yet to formulate modalities to begin a continuous registration exercise in the country.

This should allow Ghanaians who turns 18 at any time within the year 2016, to register for a voter ID cards in any of its district offices.

The Limited Registration Exercise is slated for April 28, 2016.
