Officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Tarkwa District have apologized to residents of the town and its environs, for the intermittent power fluctuation.

Addressing journalists and other key stakeholders on the situation, which has caused lots of businesses to run down, Mr. Godwin Amenuvor, the Tarkwa District Manager of ECG, explained that the ECG had problems with its supply source, hence the intermittent power supply, and promised to rectify the situation.

The District Manager said, sometimes the Tarkwa bulk supply point serving its customers were taken off by the suppliers, because they had only 15 megawatts, while their total demand was about 50 megawatt a day.

He assured customers that they would have the required supply, and revert to the normal load shedding, when the gas system was restored, and other machines from Akosombo and other independent power producers were in place.

Touching on illegal and unauthorized connections, Mr. Kofi Gyan, the District Engineer, said some customers tampered with their metres for free electricity, which caused the ECG to lose revenue.

He said the ECG had assigned officers to solve the problems, adding that a tasked force would soon be formed to speed up the exercise.
