The Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has organised a one-day training workshop for Brong-Ahafo Regional fuel station attendants at Abesim, near Sunyani.

Attended by 97 pump attendants, the workshop was designed to equip and update participants’ knowledge and skills to promote environmental best practices at their respective fuel stations.

It was also to ensure that fuel stations’ operators followed standards, rules and regulations governing the industry as stipulated by EPA Act 1994, Act 490, and to dutifully observe and implement safety precautionary measures to avoid disasters like fire in their operational areas to enhance sustainable development.

Addressing the workshop, Mr. Jackson Adiyiah Nyantakyi, a Principal Programme Officer and Deputy Regional Director of EPA said the training was a follow up of an earlier one organised for Managers and Supervisors of fuel stations in the region for industrial best practices and quality service delivery.

Mr. Nyantakyi emphasized the need for Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) such as nose masks, boots and jackets, saying that, those were essential materials needed “at all cost” by the pump attendants for their health and safety.

He cited “the oil is organic solvent, which must not enter the body”, hence, the attendants must always wear protective materials.

Dr. Francis Nyagbenu, the Regional Director of EPA assured that the Agency would continue to collaborate with the Municipal/District Assemblies, the Police and Fire Services in carrying out their duties to strengthen the protection of the environment.
