Koforidua, Aug. 1, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Command on Saturday launched a revised patrol operation in the New Juaben Municipality, code named "Tent City" to intensify security in the area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Stephen Andoh-Kwoffie, Eastern Regional Police Commander, who announced this after a two-hour march by officers and men of the command through the principal streets of Koforidua, said visibility would be enhanced with periodic swoops. He said under the operation, the municipality was zoned into six with each having a tent at a location to carry out their assignments. "Each tent is allocated with a standby vehicle, which is used by the officers in charge of the Tent City for deployment and supervision of personnel," he said.
The regional commander said such operations have reduced crime rate in the area adding that the current strategy was to prevent crime before they occurred. DCOP Andoh-Kwoffie said they were still faced with logistics challenges.
"You need a good number of serviceable vehicles with its attendant in running cost like fuel and maintenance. He said the criminals have noticed when the police patrols a particular place, it was not likely to they would back there again hence they considered that in their moves. 1 July 09
