Eastern Regional Police deploys 130 personnel for NDC Congress

Koforidua, July 6, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Command has deployed 130 police personnel to beef up security at the delegates Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), scheduled for Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region, this weekend.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Koforidua, on Wednesday, the Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, said the officers were drawn from all the six divisions in the region, namely Koforidua, Akosombo, Akropong, Kyebi, Akyem Oda and Nkawkaw, with two senior officers as their commanders.

He said all of them would converge at the regional police headquarters in Koforidua and leave for Sunyani on Wednesday afternoon.

ACP Gyamera-Yeboah urged the police personnel to exhibit a high sense of professionalism before, during and after the congress, to raise the image of the police service.

He said the police would ensure that appropriate security was provided to protect life and property before during and after the entire congress.

ACP Gyamera-Yeboah urged the personnel not to be biased towards any delegate or candidate since the police do not belong to any political party or supports any of the contestants.

More than 4,000 delegates and observers of the NDC would converge at the Brong Ahafo Regional capital from Friday July 08 to July 10 to elect its Presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections.

President John Evans Atta Mills and the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings are the contestants for the flagbearership race.
