Edikanfo Progressive Foundation condemns attack on Journalist

Kumasi, Nov 09, GNA - The Edikanfo Progressive Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, on Wednesday expressed shock about the attack on Mr Sampson K. Nyamekye, a journalist with Hello FM, by a group of macho men at the Ashanti Regional NPP Delegates Congress in Kumasi last Saturday.

The Foundation said the country had transformed from the days of the culture of silence to freedom of expression and therefore the media and condemned the perpetrators and the person who instigated the violence.

A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by Opanin Kwaku Kyei 11, Executive Director of the Foundation, said if the person who instigated that act ''thinks he has enough money to promote violence, he should rather channel the resources into the development of the country.'' The Foundation reminded Ghanaians that nobody was above the law and above media scrutiny, including the President.

It called on the Ghana Journalists Association, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and other peace loving Ghanaians who cherished freedom of the press to join hands with the Foundation and assist the victim to get to the bottom of the matter so as to bring the culprits and the instigator to book.

The Foundation said the law should be allowed to take its course and that the case should not be settled out of court to serve as a warning to hooligans.
