Elmina, May 22, GNA - The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the local premix committee at Elmina has instituted a package to award bursaries to children of fishermen in the area from profits accruing from the sale of premix. An initial number of 20 second cycle students have been selected for the support and are to be presented with cheques of 500,000 cedis each next Tuesday.

He said between November 2006 and April this year, the fishing community had a profit of 42.7 million cedis out of which 10 million cedis was being used to institute the package. Mr Asmah said another batch of 20 students would also receive the award after the expiry of the next quarter and that the exercise will continue until all children of fishermen have benefited from the package.
Mr. George Frank Asmah, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrim DEC commended the IMC for living up to expectation by rendering account of their stewardship and for realising profit for the community and instituting the package.
He said it was in the spirit of democracy that the IMC should render account to the people every quarter to erase any erroneous impression about their operations. He assured the fishermen that efforts would be made to reopen the premix retailer outlet which was closed down when the former premix committee was dissolved. Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, Central Region premix fuel coordinator, also congratulated the IMC for its achievement and attributed its performance to the peaceful coo-existence among the fishermen. 22 May 07
