Sekondi (W/R), Dec.19, GNA- District Education Officers and Circuit Supervisors of the Ghana Education Service in the Western Region have upgraded their knowledge and skills on the new education policy. The just ended five-day workshop in Sekondi for the education officials also touched on the Untrained Teachers' Diploma in Basic Education (UTTDBE) programme.
Participants would be required to train head-teachers who would in turn impart what they have learnt to untrained teachers to enable them to perform efficiently after completing their ongoing courses in various parts of the region.
They were taken through topics such as course content, preparation of lesson notes and responsibilities of the untrained teacher. Mrs. Rebecca Dadzie, Western Regional Director of Education at the closing ceremony on Monday said, government policies such as the capitation grant and the school-feeding programme had helped to increase school enrolment considerably, which requires more teachers. She advised participants to impart the knowledge they have acquired to their colleague-untrained teachers to enable them to perform to expectation.
Currently a three-week course organized by the Ghana Education Service is underway to train all untrained teachers in the region.
