Educationist attributes defilement and rape cases on society

New Edubiase (Ash), July 7, GNA- An educationist has blamed traditional rulers and family members for defilement and rape cases in the country.

Mrs Janet Adutwumwaa Boakye, Adansi East District Girl-Child Education Officer, who said this explained that instead of reporting defilement and rape cases to the police, some traditional elders try to solve them at their communities.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at New Edubiase on Monday, she said the problem bothered on insanity for a middle-aged man to have sex with a five-year-old girl only to ask the culprit to compensate the family of the victim.

She appealed to religious bodies to educate their members on the side effects of rape and defilement and urged the police and courts to be firm when dealing with such cases.

She appealed to traditional rulers to use their positions to check the high rate of defilement and rape cases by reporting all cases to the police.
