Winneba (C/R), June 7, GNA - The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim has urged members of the Municipal Assembly to strive to acquire knowledge and skills to enable them understand the various instruments that regulate business in the Assembly.
Nii Ephraim made the call at a two-day orientation course organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with the Institute of Local government Studies with support from the French Government for the members in Winneba.
He expressed gratitude to the organisers of the course and asked the assembly members to use the knowledge they had acquired to contribute effectively towards the total growth of the Municipality.
Mr Justice Amoah, Cape Coast Metropolitan Planning Officer, Mr Kwabena Dankwa, former Director of Planning at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Mr Kofi Kussachin, Effutu Municipal Co-ordinating Director who facilitated the course took the assembly members through topics such as; Ghana's Experience with Local Government and Decentralisation, Current Local Government System and Functions, the District Assembly System and Challenges, Resources Mobilisation, Participation and Accountability and Legal Arrangements.
Mr Dankwa advised the members to ensure that the Assembly implement its development plans in order to qualify for the Functional Organisation Assessment Tool.
The tool aims at improving the performance of the District Assembly in terms of efficiency, accountably and delivery of basic community services.
He also urged them to study the model standing orders to be abreast of their responsibilities as assembly members.
