Tamale, Feb.2, GNA - Members of the Choggu Hill Top Electoral Area in the Tamale Metropolis have built a two-room residential block at a cost of 28 million cedis for the Shekhinah Clinic for its humanitarian services to the people.
The Shekhinah Clinic, located at Gurugu is a private medical institution in the metropolis that has been providing free medical care to people in the communities as well as those outside the region. It operates on donations from benevolent organisations and public-spirited individuals.
The clinic has also been providing meals for mentally retarded and lunatics in the metropolis at no cost as part of its social contribution towards the well being of society.
Mr Mohammed Hardi Adam, Assembly Member for the Choggu Hill Top Electoral Area mobilised the people through individual contributions to put up the project.
Speaking at the inauguration of the project, Mr Adam said the interest showed by the members of the electoral area was a clear manifestation of good work that Dr David Abdulai, a medical doctor at the clinic, was rendering to the entire metropolis and the region as a whole.
He said members of his electoral area would not rest on their oars but would continue to assist with more of such initiatives to develop the area and enhance the living standards of the people. Mr Adam thanked Dr A. B. Salifu, a Director at the Savanna Agricultural Research Institute for providing roofing sheets for the building.
Dr. Abdulai, who received the keys to the two rooms, expressed his gratitude to members of the Electoral Area for appreciating his services.
He said accommodation for patients; especially those of them who travel from far to attend the clinic had always posed a challenge and said the two new rooms would help ease congestion. He appealed to NGOs, District Assemblies, religious organisations and public-spirited individuals to assist the clinic with accommodation facilities to enable it to continue its charitable work. 02 Feb. 07
