Nkroful, March 1, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has asked newly created district assemblies to recognise their potentials to develop and deliver a modern and efficient services. "You should feel challenged to develop the appropriate infrastructure and the level of services required by the people," he said in a speech read for him at the inauguration of Ellembelle District Assembly at Nkroful on Friday.
"We expect the new assemblies as well as the old to become a hub of economic activity, attracting and sustaining business activities by providing an enabling environment for business," he added. President Kufuor said the operationalization of the new local government service demanded that the assemblies provide the requisite physical structures and material resources, and must also adopt new values and attitude to work.
Mr Freddie Blay, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, said the new District Assembly would improve the development of the people. He said the district was an investment and food crops destination and hoped that the inauguration would link the districts to others. Mr Kwaja Ellimah, District Chief Executive for Nzema East, said the chiefs and elders of Nkroful had released plots of land for the construction of permanent offices for the new Assembly, as well as residential accommodation for staff.
Nana Antwi Barimah, a district Magistrate, swore in members of the Assembly.
