Elubo gets new fire station

Elubo (W/R), August 3, GNA - The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday, opened a new fire station at Elubo in the Jomoro District of the Western Region.

This would enable the GNFS personnel to respond quickly to any fire outbreak in the Elubo Township and its surrounding communities.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony at Elubo, the Western Regional Fire Officer of the GNFS, Mr Stephen Oscar Cobbinah, commended the Elubo branch of the GPRTU for its immense contribution towards the construction of the fire station.

He also commended the assembly members in the Elubo Electoral areas for mobilizing the youth to support the building of the station and urged other communities to offer similar support when the need arises.

The Regional Fire Officer noted that, the frequent fire outbreaks in the Elubo Township necessitated the putting up of the facility and advised the people to cooperate and support fire personnel posted to the station to ensure efficient services.

Mr Cobbinah presented a new fire tender to the station, estimated at $400,000, and advised the fire officers to take very good care of it.

"Currently, 10 fire officers have been posted to the station but we may need another 20 officers later to ensure effective and efficient service delivery," he added.

Mr Cobbinah advised the people to desist from activities that could result in frequent fire outbreaks in the town and urged motorists to give way to the fire tender upon hearing the siren, for quick response to incidents of inferno.

He urged institutions, motorists and individuals to own fire extinguishers to combat small fires before it spreads.

The Presiding Member for Jomoro, Mr Ehwie Armah, who deputised for the District Chief Executive, advised traders to desist from using naked fire in their shops and to use LPG gas with caution.

Mr Armah entreated the people to report fire cases with the necessary details, such name of the area and house numbers and others, which would help for a quicker identification of the site.

He advised business operators to honour their tax obligations to enable the government to procure more fire equipment for the country.
