Ensure that the election is free and fair - Cobbinah

Mrs Christina Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsueam has called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that this year’s election is free, fair and peaceful.

She said the entire continent is currently looking up to Ghana in terms of peace building and as a nation they need to protect this reputation.

She said this on Tuesday when she addressed a gathering at a parade of the 55th Independence Day anniversary on the theme: “sustaining peace and democracy for national unity and development”.

Twenty six schools including Junior High Schools and second cycle institutions were drawn from the municipality to participate in the parade.

Mrs Cobbinah said as a nation they need to preserve their democracy and improve on it adding that democracy is supposed to ensure that the right decision is taken with the involvement of many citizens as possible.

She said though some people wisely use this freedom of speech for nation building, others uses it to destroy their colleagues with no regard for its social consequences.

The MCE appealed to all stakeholder especially serial callers on radio to avoid utterances that will that will cause mayhem in this election year.

The ceremony was used to award deserving schools and individual students who excelled in the 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
