The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the Western Region, Catherine Afeku has supplied some basic schools in the constituency with about 250 dual desks.
This initiative was done to help address the shortage of furniture in the schools due to over-enrollment.
The source of funding of the furniture was from the MP's GETFund project and it is part of the vision of the MP to improve quality education in her Constituency.
The beneficiary schools were; Apewosika JHS, Dr. Beamish Primary School, Akango Primary school, Kukuaville Primary School, Anibil Primary School, Yediyesele Primary school, Akonu/Agyan Primary School and Apatiam Primary School.
The donation was done by the Municipal Chief Executive for the area on her behalf over the weekend.
Addressing the teachers and school children at Apewosika JHS, the MCE, Hon. Frank Okpenyen reiterated the MP's commitment to maintain education as a priority as it remains the backbone of the socio-economic development, irrespective of one's geographical location.
The MCE charged both teachers and the pupils to embrace the culture of maintenance to ensure that the furniture donated is put to judicious and lasting use.
He charged the pupils to be committed to their books and as well be disciplined.
He also pledged to support many pupils who would excel in their studies to reach the highest attainment in life.
He, therefore, urged the pupils to take their studies seriously and avoid involvement in immoral acts that could end their educational career.
The MCE assured the other schools of getting furniture in due course.
He promised to liaise with the Member of Parliament for the area, Catherine Afeku to improve educational performance in the area.
He pledged the Assembly's and MP's readiness to commit more resources in providing facilities to ensure quality education for the nation's development.
He urged parents to shun all cultural stereotypes that hindered the education of children, especially the girl-child, for an accelerated growth.
The MCE therefore used the opportunity to appeal to the teaching staff and school children to rally behind the MP in spiritual and physical to do more for schools in the area.
The teachers on their part pledged to do their work to improve education in the Municipality and thanked the MP and the MCE for the support and prayed to God for continues unity and more developmental project in the area.
The Chiefs, teachers and parents expressed profound gratitude for the kind gesture by the MP.
The MCE was accompanied by Municipal Director of Education, some staff of the Municipal Assembly and some Constituency Executives of the NPP.
